I would have to say that taking the electric panel cover off is one of the most dangerous parts of my job. So how can an electric panel cover be safely removed?
First of all, I must add this point: If you are not a trained professional you should NOT be removing the electric panel cover. The cover is there for your safety and you should hire a professional to work in your panel.
That being said, if you are a trained professional, then here are some tips for safe removal of the panel cover. First, look the area over. Are there any signs of rodent or moisture intrusion? If there are, proceed with caution – or don’t open the panel at all.
Also, check for grounding beforehand too, as that is an important safety feature. When removing the cover itself, it is best to remove the top two and bottom two screws first – leaving the middle screws for last. This makes removal of the cover easier.
